Job Description Summary

Wake Forest University seeks an inaugural Director of Student Data Reporting Services to design and develop data models for WorkDay and other third-party applications in collaboration with constituents who are primarily, but not exclusively, within the university community. This position is responsible for directing a newly defined central service for delivering student academic and enrollment data to university partners. This position requires demonstrated ability to understand functional user data needs within the higher education community, successful background/experience developing data management plans, and experience with technical tools required to deliver. Sophisticated interpersonal skills as a manager and as a partner with peers are essential to the success of this position.
The Director is responsible for ensuring accuracy, data integrity and security in the reporting of student academic data. As such, experience with compliance requirements and policies, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), is required.
The Director is a member of the leadership team in the Office of the University Registrar, participating in the strategic and functional work of the department.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
  • Develop, direct, and coordinate a centralized program to deliver student academic and enrollment data to offices within Wake Forest University to support data-based decision-making.
  • Develop a strategic University framework for the use and analysis of student data.
  • Supervise a team of data analysts to provide routine as well as specialized data requests.
  • Establish the Office of the University Registrar as the University's expert partner in the reporting, analysis, and use of student data.
  • Work collaboratively with the Analytics and Data Governance team along with other technical partners, helping to identify the appropriate analytic tools, data, and protocols to respond efficiently and effectively to data requests.
  • Develop an effective communication plan surrounding this service.
  • Help to direct the work of the Office of the University Registrar as a member of the leadership team.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree; a minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership in data analysis; a minimum of three years of successful supervisory experience.
  • Experience with data visualization; data security policies and best practices related to PII and FERPA; advanced practical experience with BI and data analysis; experience using SQL to retrieve and curate datasets from multiple databases; experience working with object-oriented databases.
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills; the ability to think critically and analytically and work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain and deliver data in ways accessible to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing direction, technical consultations, training, and assistance.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Strongly prefer an advanced degree and experience in WorkDay Reporting. PowerBI and Excel.

  • Reports to the University Registrar.
