Job Description Summary

This position performs work in the athletic compliance office to ensure integrity with all NCAA, ACC, and Wake Forest University (WFU) rules and regulations, primarily assisting the compliance staff and working with the WFU coaches/sport-specific staff members. Works directly with the Assistant Athletic Director/Compliance, Director of Compliance, and Sr. Associate AD/Compliance to provide education of rules, review and update policies and procedures, and monitor various athletics program activities as needed.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
  • Educates and monitors oversight and compliance for WFU camps and clinics (as independently conducted by WFU coaches or staff members) in accordance with WFU policies and NCAA rules.
  • Provides education and monitoring for playing and practice season requirements including playing and practice season declarations, tracking of countable practice hours, outside competition, and time management plans for all WFU teams.
  • Monitors and processes all aspects of recruiting activities for all sports programs, including official visits, unofficial visits, complimentary admissions, recruiting/scouting services, off-campus recruiting limitations, and athletic business office reconciliations as needed.
  • Assigns, reviews and approves NCAA and Wake Forest University mandatory compliance forms for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for official team roster management changes for all sports; updates software and other compliance office databases and personnel on roster changes as needed.
  • Assists student-athletes with transfer portal processing and updating transfer portal data as needed.
  • Assists coaches and the WFU Business Office with incidental expenses for student-athletes.
  • Serves as a resource for WFU coaches and staff for creating accounts and utilizing software applications (ARMS, Teamworks, NCAA Apps, etc).
  • Reviews and approves WFU coaching staff declarations.
  • Provides rules education for new WFU employees and assists with compliance orientation and education for all WFU student-athletes.
  • Provides interpretations of ACC and NCAA rules to coaches and non-coaching staff members.
  • Assists with ACC/NCAA waivers and WFU or NCAA reports as needed.
  • Assists with rules education for student-athletes, coaches, non-coaching staff and non-athletic staff members with athletic responsibilities.
  • Assists with updating WFU compliance policies and procedures.
  • Assists with donation requests for WFU sports teams.
Other Functions:
  • Share supervision duties of student interns or externs, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletic Director.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree required and at least 6 months of experience working in compliance (or a comparable athletic department unit) at an NCAA institution.
  • Demonstrated some knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must have experience utilizing a compliance software system (e.g., ARMS, JumpForward, FrontRush, Teamworks, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task with flexibility, patience and attention to detail and accuracy while prioritizing workload.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability and desire to perform accurate detail oriented work and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative environment with athletic coaches and administrative staff members along with campus partners in various departments.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Graduate Degree
  • Preferred 1-2 years of experience working in compliance at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Experience using NCAA Compliance software applications.
  • Ability to utilize technology to update processes and improve efficiency.
Accountabilities: Accountable for own work.
