Position Primary Purpose and General Duties:

The Office of Student Leadership and Engaged Learning (OSLEL) partners with students to foster experiential learning, community building, and personal growth, creating transformative service and leadership experiences. OSLEL empowers students to be active learners, leaders, and community members.

The Assistant Director for Student Leadership supervises the Coordinator for the Emerging Leaders Program and student staff in the Peer Leadership Initiative. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership will provide oversight to the Emerging Leaders Program, including assessment, budget oversight, and course instruction. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership will provide leadership and management of the VCU Peer Leader Initiative, including assessment, training,strategic oversight, and collaboration with divisional and campus partners. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of leadership programming at VCU, including the student leadership conference, campus leadership programs, and will assist in the support of the DEI Leadership Course and other student initiatives. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership will ensure successful collaboration within OSLEL to support existing programs as well as other units within the Division of Student Affairs and the university and Richmond community. The position requires some work outside of normal business hours including nights and weekends.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

Master's degree in leadership, education, social sciences or related field. Experience with management of leadership development programs and student programming. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of student development theory and practice. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Demonstrated commitment to student success and experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a constantly changing environment.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

Experience in evaluation and assessment of programs. Experience with teaching undergraduate leadership theory and practice. Experience serving as a peer leader as an undergraduate or graduate student. Previous experience supervising professional staff. Ability to be certified to drive university vehicles.

Salary Range: $55,000-$57,000
