Job Summary

Provides care for aquatic laboratory animals and their environment and keeps records according to State, Federal and University regulations.

Responsibilities

1. Food preparation and feeding.
2. Tank cleaning.
3. Dish washing.
4. Careful adherence to research protocols.
5. Maintains routine record keeping of such items as environmental conditions and animal inventory.
6. Observes and communicates animal health conditions to lab personnel and notifies supervisor of abnormal conditions.
7. Distributes supplies to various research areas.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
  • Nearly Continuously: Standard vivarium environment; with typical vivarium environmental hazards and concerns. Standard laboratory environment; Safety shoes are required to be worn by all employees working in animal facilities
  • Seldom: Occasionally handles/works with biohazards or risks for potential job-related injury, rarely coming in contact with hazardous materials.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required:
  • Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking, walking.
  • Often: Bending, reaching overhead, twisting.
  • Seldom: Lifting – up to 50 pounds, kneeling, squatting.
Minimum Qualifications
  • GED or HS Diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
  • Two years' related experience
