JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Medical Technical Assistant 1 provides nursing support to Internal Medicine residents and attending physicians. This position helps ensure correct aseptic/sterile procedures are followed and performs invasive procedures as defined by nursing statutes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  2. Assists physicians and residents with procedures and patient visits.
  3. Obtains vitals and brief health history.
  4. Schedules patient's appointments with outpatient testing offices per Internal Medicine physician’s request.
  5. Administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  6. Verifies patient’s insurance coverage and follows the insurance company’s policies for referral to a specialist.
  7. Enters quality data into electronic medical records and assists with coding and billing.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office. (Experience as a nurse assistant desired. Knowledge of medical billing preferred. Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or CCMA in the state of Tennessee required.(COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to communicate both on telephone and in person.

· Knowledge of different insurance companies and the ability to maintain constant contact with the patient's primary insurance carrier.

· Knowledge of medical terminology and medical vocabulary.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.

· Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.

· Ability to coordinate care for patients, within and outside providers.
