Maintenance Specialist (Temporary Position)

Description:

This position provides technical support to the animal and plant science research programs for the Northeast Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Greeneville, TN.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The Maintenance Specialist will work alongside agricultural research center staff in the design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of equipment as well as infrastructure. This position will also follow a program to keep detailed records of work performed. This position will aid the Research Associate(s) and other Center staff in all workshop activities as well as farm related tasks including fence building and repair, grounds keeping, planting, and harvesting. This position will work to maintain roads, fences, stalls, and other areas to ensure research security and continuity.

This position will aid in the efforts of preventative maintenance and routine agriculture equipment repairs. Operate heavy equipment to deliver feed and water to research herd; plant and harvest agricultural crops to be used for research trials and animals; maintain roads, fences, stalls, and other areas to ensure research security and continuity.

Complying with all UT Policies, attending appropriate in-service training and regulatory requirement including RCR/ Complies with all UT policies and regulatory policies especially pesticide labels and APHIS regulatory requirement for regulated materials.

Qualifications:

Required Are:
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience preferably in an agricultural setting.
Desired Are:
  • High school diploma or GED with 5 years of more in an agricultural setting.
  • Skilled in operation and maintenance of row crop farm equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible work hours (occasional work on weekends and/or evenings).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to receive and follow instructions, make wise independent decisions, proven self-starter and demonstrated self-motivation.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment in various conditions including extreme weather, dust, pollen.
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • TN pesticide application certification or ability to obtain within 90 days after start date of employment.
