JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Business Manager provides financial oversight for post-award activities and day-to-day business operations in the Department of Preventive Medicine. This position monitors, analyzes, and tracks fiscal and human resources commitments and budgets. The position interfaces with the Office of Sponsored Programs, investigators, and staff on all aspects of post-award administrations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitors and manages compliance with each grant throughout its life cycle.
  2. Thoroughly reviews incoming awards; identifies and manages all reporting deadlines; advises on allowable uses of grant funds; analyzes issues of cost appropriateness; develops indirect cost analysis.
  3. Completes accurate and timely budget modifications and required annual reconciliation reports.
  4. Monitors the expenses incurred are within the approved budget and follows grant terms and conditions, donor regulations and policy and procedures.
  5. Share and reviews with the Principal Investigator/Research Manager a budget vs actual report on quarterly basis.
  6. Analyze and make improvements to the current tracking system for yearly and multi-year faculty commitments (startup accounts, F & A departmental funds, departmental allowances).
  7. Utilizes financial and business analyses to devise models, ratios, and benchmarks to meet financial management needs.
  8. Monitors balances on restricted, state, and gift accounts.
  9. Supervises subordinate staff including annual performance evaluations.
  10. Performs other duties as necessary.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years related progressively higher professional accounting/financial experience OR Master’s Degree and three (3) years’ experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles, strong analytical, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Knowledge and experience with sponsored project activities, grants, and contract administration.
  • Good understanding of Federal guidelines and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position occasionally works evenings.
