Job Description

NATURE AND LEVEL OF WORK

Perform skilled work oriented to the installation, repair, fabrication and/or maintenance of a wide range of utility production equipment.

Repair and maintenance projects vary from routine preventative assignments to projects requiring repair troubleshooting, measurement and adjustment, evaluation of parts needs, replacement of repair parts as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete detailed inspections of all utility production mechanical equipment, determine necessary repairs, develop a prioritized work list for repairs, complete actual repair as needed.

May complete valve repair, steam/water pipe fitting, plumbing, painting, steam trap repair, instrumentation installation, and insulation work.

May perform or assist in the repair and installation of utility production equipment using specialized tools.

May install and maintain water, chilled water, air, gas, oil and steam piping, pipe hangers and specialty items.

Notify supervisor(s) of potential problems discovered during routine inspections and maintenance; recommend and/or assist in determining best repair options.

Persons filling this position will be specialized in their respective trade.

Millwrights will be able to install and repair equipment using specialized tools and techniques of their trade including but not limited to precision levels and measuring devices, laser alignment tools, vibration analyzers, grouting, and chemicals.

Utility Production Specialist will be familiar with MU utility production plants specifically, help coordinating outage work and making work plans for upcoming repairs on plant equipment.

Use management software for tracking work orders and preventative maintenance. May also complete these repairs working with other trades and maintenance staff.

Safely use and maintain in the normal daily job function tools and equipment including: various hand tools, grinders, drills, band and disk cutters, propane torch, acetylene torch, electric arc welder, electric arc plasma cutter, grit blasters, lathe, etc.

Complete rigging and heavy lifting of various materials utilizing and operating chain/cable hoists, engine hoists, pallet jacks, forklifts, and small portable cranes.

May fabricate parts or specialized tools to complete repairs. May repair, construct and install handrails, ladders, catwalks and other metal fixtures.

Or may assist in boiler, chiller and bag house operation (e.g., during start-up, shut down, and system upsets).

Coordinate with utility production supervision and engineering on projects and maintenance; prepare material lists, review inventory needs, review schematics, construction drawings, and equipment manuals, and assist in maintaining maintenance records.

Safely coordinate work with operations to maintain reliability of plant equipment by following all plant safety practices.

Follow all utility production safety and maintenance policies and procedures. Normal work will be in areas with access constraints, bag house compartments, boiler fireboxes, boiler drums, heights, extreme heat, fly ash, biomass and coal dust, and noise.

Coordinate with utility production operations to remove and return systems to service.

May oversee and coordinate work of others assigned to plant projects.

Assist in training and sharing knowledge of plant systems.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift

7:30 AM- 4:00 PM

Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

All personnel:

A high school diploma or equivalency certificate.

A valid State of Missouri Driver's License.

Ability on a regular basis to:

o Grasp, lift, carry, and set down objects up to 75 pounds.

o Climb and work from ladders, staging, and scaffolds.

o Enter common boiler and baghouse access doors.

o Work in a utility production environment of heat, cold, humidity, noise, and dust.

May be subject to afterhours call out for emergencies, including wearing a cell phone, pager or other communication device and being placed on standby as required.

Additional requirements for Millwright roles:

Six years of general mechanical nature with sufficient experience to qualify as a journey level millwright, including apprentice or vocational training.

Three years of experience in a heavy industrial setting with priority given to direct utility production maintenance experience.

Completion of all training requirements of Utility Production Maintenance Specialist I and II for specific focus area (e.g., mechanic, millwright, and welder) preferred.

Skilled in the methods and practices of utility production and industrial maintenance and mechanical repair. Skilled in the installation and repair of heavy rotating equipment, precision coupling alignments, overhaul of pumps, compressors, turbine, fans, gearboxes, conveyors, drag chains, etc.

Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of the following specialized tools: Lathes, drill press, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, reverse-dial indicators for coupling alignment, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional requirements for Millwright roles:

Six years of general mechanical nature with sufficient experience to qualify as a journey level millwright, including apprentice or vocational training is preferred.

Three years of experience in a heavy industrial setting with priority given to direct utility production maintenance experience.

Completion of all training requirements of Utility Production Maintenance Specialist I and II for specific focus area (e.g., mechanic, millwright, and welder) preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $21.74-$37.68
