Job Description

The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine currently seeks applications foropen full-time faculty positions inVeterinary Anesthesiologyat either the clinical instructor, assistant / associate / full teaching professor (NTT), or assistant / associate / full professor (TT) rank. Incumbents will join a dynamic Anesthesia team that supports a busy and diverse Veterinary Health Center. Our team includes board-certified faculty veterinarians as well as a highly trained team of veterinary technicians who focus on providing perioperative care.
The anesthesiology section provides support to nearly every other specialty within the health center, including small animal, large animal, and equine services. The section utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and techniques, including:
  • Modern anesthesia workstations with integrated ventilation in each operating room
  • Mindray ePM 12M monitors with agent analysis
  • Radiometer ABL90 Flex Plus blood gas analyzer
  • Nerve stimulators and Samsung HM70 EVO ultrasound unit for locoregional techniques
  • Mallard and Tafonius large animal anesthesia machines
This is afull-time, benefit eligible, 12 month/year renewable appointment.Teaching or tenure track options are available depending on the qualifications and interests of the candidate. Distribution of effort between teaching, research, and service will depend upon whether a tenure track or teaching track option is chosen as well as the successful candidate's qualifications, career goals, and the needs of the cardiology section. Duties will include:
  • Provide clinical instruction of students (professional), interns, and residents in veterinary anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative medicine utilizing the caseload of the VHC.
  • Contribute to the professional and graduate curriculum by participating in classroom and laboratory instruction. Opportunities for online instruction are possible.
  • Represent the University, College, and VHC through outreach activities for animal-owning public, referring veterinarians, or other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide consultation to off-site, university-operated clinics.
  • Participate with other faculty and house officers in after-hours call.
  • Participate in the discovery process by participating in research and graduate/house officer research. Individuals in the tenure track will be expected to develop a productive research focus.
  • Participate in faculty governance activities.
  • Distribution of effort will be based on the successful candidate's qualifications, career goals, and the needs of the anesthesia section.

MU's Veterinary Health Center (VHC)is a state-of-the-art teaching and medical services facility for companion animals as well as livestock. The VHC has 51,211 square feet dedicated to the small animal hospital, including separate areas for our 14 specialty service lines, a full-service clinical pathology laboratory, an in-house pharmacy, as well as radiation therapy and imaging. The VHC additionally provides a supportive environment for clinical trial research and has experience in performing veterinary clinical trials.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (such as VMD, BVSc)
  • Completion of a residency designed to meet the requirements for certification in American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia by the start date.
Candidates will be evaluated on:
  • Eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Missouri.
  • Professional, residency and graduate training.
  • Communication skills, experience working effectively in diverse environments and letters of reference will also be considered in selection of a successful candidate.
  • For those interested in a tenure track position, research productivity and granting activity will also be evaluated.
