Job Summary

The UK College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine seeks a visionary Division Chief for Digestive Diseases and Nutrition with a record of achievement in academic medicine in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Exceptional accomplishments as a clinician and academician will prepare the candidate for success guiding a busy clinical practice and supporting growing academic careers. The Division Chief reports directly to and serves at the pleasure of the Department Chair and collaborates closely with other leaders across UK HealthCare and the College of Medicine.

The predominant criteria for appointment as chief include emotional intelligence, a proven ability to deliver excellent patient care while training future leaders in digestive diseases, nutrition, and internal medicine. The successful candidate will be a prominent academic leader with an established record of excellence in clinical care, research, clinical education, and mentorship.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist, and an effective advocate for the faculty, the division, and the department. The candidate will have collaborative initiatives; they will demonstrate integrity and foster the trust of colleagues and the broader University faculty. The successful applicant will be an effective communicator. Prior administrative experience as a Division Chief, or Program Director is preferred.

Professional Experience/Qualifications:
  • MD, DO, MD/PhD, or equivalent
  • National recognition as demonstrated through involvement in academic and professional societies at a national level
  • Demonstrated leadership in administrative positions in medical school or an academic medical center setting
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine
  • Board certification in Gastroenterology
  • Completion of a gastroenterology fellowship
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Kentucky
  • Meet University criteria for appointment of Associate or Full Professor
