Position Title:
Post Doctoral Fellow - Internal Medicine (Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Clinical Pharmacology)

Job Family Group:
Professional Staff

Job Description Summary:
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Andrew Lutkewitte, Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Clinical Pharmacology. Our research program seeks to increase our understanding of metabolic crosstalk between tissues in the context of obesity. This specific project aims to establish the mechanistic links between adipose tissue dysfunction and dysregulated hepatic metabolism. This project will use comprehensive metabolic testing combined with multi-omic approaches to assess the signaling mechanisms that drive hepatic de novo lipogenesis following adipose dysfunction. We have established several mouse models of adipose tissue dysfunction and loss; in addition, we use several in vitro cell lines and primary hepatocytes and adipocytes to study the molecular mechanism in controlled conditions using radio and isotopic tracing methods. Additional projects in the lab include identifying molecular mechanisms controlling adipose tissue triglyceride synthesis. If interested, please send a letter describing your research experience/interest/future career aspirations, CV, and contact information for three references.

Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career.

Work Experience: Prior experience with human/mouse biospecimen processing, animal husbandry and colony management and cell culture.

Skills:
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, and work as part of an interactive team.
  • Experimental design, implementation, and analysis. General research methods include pipetting, centrifugation, and reagent handling.

Preferred Qualifications

Skills:
  • Proficiency with routine biochemical techniques, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, sterile cell culture, DNA, RNA and protein-based assays. Additionally, experience in animal handling and metabolic analysis, dissection, and downstream tissue analyses. Finally, experience working with mouse models of metabolic disease.
  • Demonstrated ability to run multiple independent projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
