JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut Hartford has recently been awarded an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander (AANAPISI) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. A major component of the AANAPISI grant is to improve access, equity, sense of belonging, and graduation of Asian American and Pacific Islander students. To this end, the Transformation, Equity, Access, and Sense of Belonging (TEAS) project is hiring a Program Assistant to ensure proper and efficient administration of the project. The Program Assistant will manage and monitor the project's progress as well as provide key administrators at UConn Hartford with Project information, meet regularly with PI and Co-PI to ensure that objectives are accomplished, maintain budget oversight and maintenance of financial records, monitor the work of all Project staff, assist in institutionalizing Project activities and provide input and oversight in the evaluation of all activities. The Program Assistant will report to the Principal Investigator of the AANAPISI grant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the PI and Co-PIs in the planning, development, and implementation of program activities to ensure the program objectives are met and that the program follows the federal and funding resource rules and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate strategies that meet AANAPISI grant objectives for student persistence and completion.
  • Develop, organize, and monitor program activities and events to recruit eligible AAPI students to meet grant program objectives.
  • Coordinate and partner outreach activities, working collaboratively with the various campus offices, and providing AANAPISI program information to individuals and local community organizations.
  • Collect and analyze project data and prepare related reports.
  • Provide oversight of all student employees, maintaining student files and related paperwork.
  • Verify and provide guidance for all transactions related to the grant such as invoices, travel, reimbursement, and requisitions.
  • Correspond about account transactions with administrators from other related campus offices.
  • Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of related business or grant administration experience: OR combinations of education and experience.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft programs.
  4. Excellent collaboration, organizational, and administrative skills; be able to multitask and meet deadlines.
  5. Knowledge of AAPI issues and needs of high-need AAPI students from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds.
  6. Experience working with underserved minority populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Two to four years of related experience.
  2. Experience working in a higher education setting.
  3. Experience using University of Connecticut systems (KFS, Concur, HuskyBuy, CoreCT, etc.)
  4. Experience assisting with the management of grants.
