The SOM Office of the Chief Strategy officer is recruiting for a part time, 50% with benefits, for an Executive in Residence (EIR).  The EIR will be a key component of the Sr. VP & SoM Dean’s office, which has expanded its functions to include providing executive level industry insights as part of it’s service to our faculty, staff and students. The Executive in Residence (EIR) will work in collaboration with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and Assistant Director, Communications & Marketing (ADCM) to position the School of Medicine as a global leader in health sciences research, medical education and clinical care.

The EIR will play an essential role in forming the business development vision established in collaboration with the CSO and Sr. VP/Dean, as the office acts as single point of contact for the Biotech and Healthcare verticals to identify potential opportunities with the school of medicine including industry-contracts, ventures, collaborations and alliances. Leveraging their extensive existing network, they will crate synergies of all types for the SoM and TNPRC with the corporate, investor and foundation worlds.

The position will infuse real world expertise as it works with departments and centers across the school to create business development strategy, including building new collaborations between researchers and industry partners and managing relationships with key stakeholders to enable new projects. They will be responsible for building out and managing the Business Development team. They will also possess (or have the ability to rapidly develop) an in-depth knowledge of the SoM and Primate Center research capabilities (and secondarily other research strengths of the University) and match them to understand industry needs in order to foster appropriate business relationships which leverage Tulane’s strengths, as well as a general knowledge of other STEM strengths within the University ecosystem. This includes being able to help leadership strategize on appropriate messaging, and possessing the necessary diplomacy to foster appropriate business relationships that will enable them to do so.

The EIR works at the direction of the CSO and in cooperation with all SoM Departments, as well as with other University administrative offices, as well as our hospital and other external partners. Job may require some travel to support the outreach efforts of the office, possibly 10-20% of the time.
