General Definition of Work

The Facilities Construction Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, contracting, scheduling and budgeting facilities construction projects, being responsible for the oversight of field construction supervision, and assisting with other projects related to the functions of the Facilities Division as assigned or apparent. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Management.
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

  • Supervise, coordinate, or schedule the activities of construction contractors
  • Read specifications and plan sheets, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures
  • Inspect work progress, equipment, or construction sites to maintain a safe area and ensure that contracts and specifications are being met
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities.
  • Coordinates and assigns work to employees, based on material or worker requirements of specific jobs
  • Estimate materials, equipment, and labor requirements to complete jobs
  • Confer with safety manager, technical personnel, project managers, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities
  • Order or requisition materials or supplies
  • Analyze project production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving methods, processes or alternative plans to improve the overall outcome of facility projects
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable of the tools, materials and equipment used in the construction of facilities
  • General knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades
  • Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to operate construction equipment, tractors and related machinery and equipment
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
  • This position requires the scheduling of events, programs, and construction activities to successfully execute capital construction projects and requires a variety of skills to be developed and updated on a regular basis. Examples of the skills necessary are: active listening, project priority coordination, scheduling, critical thinking, public speaking, directing people as they work, comprehension of construction plans, cost estimates, and time management.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED certification required and additional vocational training or Associate's degree with construction management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements
  • The use of personal protective devises such as hard hats, safety eye glasses, hearing protection, and other proper safety equipment is mandatory.
  • The position requires a variety of office and field working environments with the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing.
  • Exceptional communication skills are required; no special hearing perception is required; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. construction equipment, heavy traffic).
  • In addition to field work this position requires office work with the use of computer programs in an office environment.
