Job Summary

Under the supervision of the CAMP Co-PI and CAMP Director, this position will be responsible for promoting program services, soliciting prospective participants, collecting and analyzing required documentation based on the program’s federal eligibility criteria to make recommendations to the CAMP project Director; work closely with partner organizations and migrant educational program staff to identify potential participants. The CAMP Recruitment Specialist will assist the CAMP project director with program compliance by maintaining eligibility documents for potential participants and record documents of individuals recruited and enrolled in the program.

Flexible hours with non-traditional schedules, potentially including evenings and some weekends.

Authority and Accountability

This position reports to the CAMP Director and does not have any direct reports. This position does not have any budgetary responsibility. This position does not have any supervisory duties, but it is the only position assigned to the clearly defined task activities. The recruiment specialist provides recommendations to CAMP Director on CAMP Scholar eligibility based on federal guidelines and SU Admission. These recommendations will highly influence the CAMP Director's final decision on student acceptance to program.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience working with marginalized communities.

Willingness to work flexible hours and drive to places migrant and seasonal farmworkers are likely to be found; Ability to provide support services to prospective and current CAMP students.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of MEP, CAMP or HEP federal programs.

Ability to speak and write Spanish and/or Creole.

Knowledge of the locations where migrant and seasonal farmworkers reside, work and frequently visit, including roads, labor camps, and other housing areas where migrant and seasonal farmworker families typically live; knowledge of organizations that may assist migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families, including community agencies that may provide services to them; churches that they and their families attend; events that might attract them; and other local areas where they might gather; knowledge of the agricultural community, including the local growers, and agricultural production activities; willingness and skills to collaborate with community organizations, faith based institutions, migrant educational program staff and a working knowledge of the services they provide; knowledge of the language(s) spoken by migrant and seasonal farmworkers; knowledge of the migrant lifestyle, cultures, values, and beliefs, and the ability to develop a strong rapport with migrant and seasonal farmworker families; knowledge of the type of student who would most likely benefit from the CAMP project; knowledge of the secondary schools that potential participants have attended, and a willingness to communicate with faculty and staff at these schools.
