Job Description:


General Statement

The Laboratory Coordinator/Senior Technical Specialist collaborates with the Nurse Assistant (N.A.), Associate Degree in Nursing (A.D.N.) and the Practical Nursing (P.N.) Chair/Program Coordinators /faculty and /students to deliver the laboratory and technological components of the Nurse Education curriculums related to the instruction of clinical skills used by nurses to care for patients in the clinical setting. The Laboratory Coordinator/Senior Technical Specialist collaborates with the Nurse Education faculty of all nursing programs to ensure curriculum cohesiveness, communication relative to student performance and the implementation of laboratory policies and procedures. Additionally, coordinates activities pertaining to technological activities/computer assisted educational offerings required within these programs. This includes oversight of the simulated technology and nursing laboratories. Support is provided for both A.D.N. and PN Programs.

Work hours are evening and occasional weekend.

Reports to the Dean of the School of Healthcare.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the Nurse Education (C.N.A., A.D.N. & P.N.) laboratory policies, procedures and student procedure manual.
  • Communicates with program administrators, coordinators and faculty in writing and or verbally regarding program curriculum and student performance.
  • Coordinates lab practice services relating to lab competencies, standardized testing/assessment throughout the Nursing Education (C.N.A., A.D.N. & P.N.) programs.
  • Maintains documentation of student attendance, practice and testing performance in the nursing practice laboratory and on-site clinical simulations.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling and implementation of on-site clinical simulation activities as scheduled and student practice and testing schedules.
  • Coordinates remedial support, tutor support, intervention programs for students at risk related to laboratory and/or clinical remediation.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling of the laboratory/simulation/tutor instructor work schedules and student practice, tutor and testing schedules.
  • Plans, conducts, or participates in related educational programs (i.e.: computer assisted learning modalities, simulated clinical offerings and additional required computerized technologies).
  • Ensures that practice equipment and instructional materials (computerized programs and mannequins, films, books and handouts) are reflective of current nursing practice, are recorded in an up-to-date inventory and are maintained at an operational level.
  • Performs administrative tasks associated with Nursing Education laboratory activities; (i.e.: maintain student files, contact logs which document student laboratory performance, conducts research, provides data on students and program components to assist chair/program coordinator with proposals and reports, prepares instructional materials, training manuals, statistical analyses, purchase orders, logs, reports, forms and general correspondence).
  • Department standing and special committees as needed
  • Provides on the job training to and supervises the activities of the laboratory instructors including providing input into the selection process and work performance evaluation.
  • Prepares reports as required.
  • Collects, organizes, and disseminates information as required.
  • Conducts program research as directed in compliance with Nurse Education Plan for Program Evaluation process.
  • Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas; (i.e.: maintains a working knowledge of assigned area, researches new trends and advances in the profession, reads professional literature, attends workshops and training sessions)
  • Actively supports the teaching and learning process; practices honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strives to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
  • Works actively with other areas of the College to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork

Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Nursing with demonstrated commitment to the attainment of a Master's degree within 5 years of hire.
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current clinical practice.
  • Simulation experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree with a Major in Nursing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in scheduling.
  • Competent in use of various computer assisted learning technologies
  • Ability to use the computer to document student performance.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Experience in managing projects.

Application Instructions:


Minimum starting salary for Bachelors' level candidate is $69,027. Full salary range is $69,027to $75,298; pay grade 6 (Senior Technical Specialist). Includes a complete fringe benefit package such as competitive health insurance, free dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Hours are Monday through Friday 2pm-10pm.

**Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience.
