Overview

Princeton University Library is seeking a Senior Bibliographic Specialist to join the Serials Acquisitions Unit (SAU). SAU is responsible for the receipt of library materials supplied on standing orders and through subscriptions, in all languages, in all formats, and the work is a blend of acquisitions and cataloging tasks.

Princeton University Library is one of the world's leading research libraries, supporting a diverse community of 5,200 undergraduates, 2,700 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. Its holdings include more than 7 million printed volumes, 85 thousand manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and extensive collections of digital text, data, and images.

The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, and 3 storage facilities. This position will be located in the Library's off campus office.



Responsibilities

  • Adding new volumes and issues of print serials in Alma, updating item records.
  • Solving serial problems and answering serial questions.
  • Receiving and processing library materials supplied on standing order
  • Copy-cataloging new print material.
  • Processing claims and claiming for missing serial issues.


Qualifications

  • Minimum one-year library experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of library staff in written and oral form.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the team.
  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

Preferred qualifications:

  • One-year library work experience specifically with serials.
  • Experience working with serial, acquisition and cataloging modules in an integrated library system such as Alma, in addition to OCLC (via OCLC Connexion and/or WorldShare).
  • Basic knowledge of the MARC format and bibliographic standards (RDA, AACR2), cataloging rules.
