PDM draws on nearly 50 years of experience in the HVAC industry from our origins in Europe!

Our Copper Mill operation facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year while our Production side of the operation operates 24 hours Monday - Friday.

Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician (SME) will be responsible for maintaining the electrical and mechanical systems of manufacturing machinery as well as be involved in the daily installation, advanced maintenance, and repair and/or rebuilds of a wide variety of manufacturing systems. This is a hands-on position requiring extended knowledge of mechanical / electrical / fluid systems combined with a strong equipment troubleshooting and problem-solving automated systems of machinery.

The ability to optimize day-to-day activities while minimizing cost and keeping safety and efficiency a top priority is key in this position.

The goal is to ensure that production processes continue to deliver products of maximum quality in a profitable, safe manner with no downtime.

7pm - 7am

When operationally necessary, must have the ability to be available to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift on any day/night.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Is the SME by exhibiting the highest level of expertise in performing specialized jobs and continuously seeks to develop the personal skills as well as the ones of the coworkers.
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines and company standards.
  • Interacts with internal team to maintain machinery performance, ensuring quality output, enhancing product yield and machinery efficiency; provides technical assistance in problem solving on assigned platforms or in area of expertise.
  • Participates in startups, shutdowns, scheduled regular preventive maintenance changeovers, and troubleshooting of assigned platforms.
  • Clearly and confidently communicate any issues and important information to lead timely.
  • Involved in the day-to-day routine task as well as installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of manufacturing systems (i.e.: hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and mechanical systems)
  • Maintain and repair electro-mechanical equipment using advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Tear down and replace pumps, gearboxes, and related equipment.
  • Request support from other personnel to aid repairs and rebuilds to efficiently perform job duties.
  • Reports time spent, parts used, settings and other job-related activities properly to ensure stock replenishment and process stability to ensure an adequate number of spare parts.
  • Requests supplies, materials, tools, machine parts, and other necessary equipment to ensure uninterrupted production and proper equipment condition.
  • Assist with developing acceptable machinery operation procedures.
  • Review electrical reliability on a continual basis and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Identifies issues in efficiency, suggest improvements and provides feedback to engineering to improve routine procedures, part availability and job preparation.
  • Provides feedback in the proper methods to the operators, production supervisors and other maintenance team to carry out maintenance assignments, preventive equipment-care and challenges and trains new employees.
  • Identifies root causes of problems, taking fast effective corrective action.
  • Exemplary housekeeping and care of machinery and work areas
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing employees on use of all control points, equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of and application of LEAN and 5S tools and strategies to working environment
  • Contributes to team effort working hands-on.
  • Adheres to and enforces staff follows EHS guidelines and legal obligations
  • Based upon business needs, an individual may be reassigned to another position either temporarily or permanently, at any time, with or without notice performing other duties as necessary or assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical or control logic skills and industrial systems
  • Ability to logically troubleshoot high-speed manufacturing machinery and read blueprints.
  • Must be mechanically inclined with strong equipment trouble shooting and above average problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to maintain good working relationships
  • Sharp business acumen with a high regard for quality assurance.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment as well self-motivated with a results-driven approach to also work independently with minimal supervision, and ability to do highly accurate work that requires good judgment in recognizing scope of responsibilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through to maintain a high level of quality in a safe manner.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to concentrate in a busy environment; able to easily make quick, efficient decisions as needed.
  • Ability to perform math calculations and understanding of basic computer skills.
  • Good understanding of LEAN tools; use power tools to change parts and settings on machines.
  • Ability to use and understand a ruler / tape measure and calipers.
  • Ability to understand and exercise emergency procedures.
  • Regular and punctual attendance required.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Degree in a technical, engineering, or relevant field preferred, otherwise equal level of training or experience.
  • Minimum of three years of industrial work experience in the maintenance trades preferred.
  • Ability to be available to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift when operationally necessary.
  • Excellent physical fitness with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50 pounds.
  • This candidate cannot be sensitive to strong magnetic and electric fields.

Training Requirements

  • OSHA 30 Training within 3 months of hire; every 5 years thereafter
  • Forklift Certification preferred.
  • Emergency / Contingency Training within 6 months of hire; annual refresher training thereafter

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is equally moderate to loud.

Work involves lifting material and products up to 50 lbs. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and gloves. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. This position requires full awareness of surroundings.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Standing, kneeling, bending 6-8 hours, sitting 1-3 hours, driving 1-3 hours in a shift.

In performance of work tasks must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, climb, bend, reach and twist, performs grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling and use of foot controls in regular work tasks.

  • Must be able to perform frequent repetitive motions of firm grasping, fine manipulation, finger dexterity, bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, negotiating stairs and slippery surfaces in a non-climate-controlled environment (hot in summer / cold in winter) environment, occasionally lifting up to 80 lbs.

Language Skills

Must be able to communicate in English language Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
