Job Description
Performs program support work for the ORM. Exercises independent judgement in applying prescribed university financial policies and procedures as well as departmental procedures related to ERM, insurance and safety programs. Maintains cost, financial, inventory, personnel, payroll and specialized reports in support of the ORM. Provides customer service to university and other external clientele and functions independently receiving general directions from the Executive Director for Risk Management.
This position performs technical, fiscal, and accounting related duties in preparing and maintaining fiscal and related records, reports and other activities. This position is also responsible for managing the Administrative Office to include supervising the daily activities of office staff and student workers, providing administrative support to the Executive Director for Risk Management, the Director(s) of Environmental Health and Safety (ODU and EVMS Campus, and other personnel within the Office for Risk Management, at the director of the Executive Director for Risk Management.

Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Skill in Microsoft Office and a financial management system. Working knowledge of office management procedures and equipment. Basic supervisory skills in an office setting. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Effective organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to perform budget analysis, evaluate budget compliance procedures, and prepare technical reports. Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external customers (such as faculty, staff, students, and insurance companies) in a diverse environment; Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with confidential data and ensure such information is kept private

Some related experience as an accountant, bookkeeper, or other related position maintaining or processing financial records, preparing financial reports, and analysis of financial transactions. Some experiencein office management procedures.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Considerable knowledge of general liability and property insurance procedures. Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia DRM insurance policies. Working knowledge of the University Banner system. Working knowledge of University administrative and accounting procedures. Ability to work independently. Ability to provide professional customer service.
Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing). Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to explain insurance and compliance related issues fully, logically, and concisely.Considerable experience providing administrative support in a middle management compliance, insurance, legal, or risk management office environment.
Conditions of Employment
