NRT is looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to join their team in Nashville, TN.

In this position, you will report to the Director of Software and Controls Engineering and be tasked with writing new and modifying existing software code and PLC logic for fully integrated controls systems. You will work with the Control Panel Shop and Field Technicians to develop and fully test automation systems for turn-key waste processing facilities. You will also act as the Lead Controls Engineer through mentorship and industrial knowledge for Engineers in the company.

If you have these qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities...

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field required
  • Ten (10) years' experience in embedded systems and PLC programming -or- equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Demonstrated experience in projects using SQL databases and JAVA required
  • Expertise in Siemens device-level PLC programming required
  • Demonstrated experience in projects using Ignition HMI front-end applications required
  • Experience with Linux and Windows services required
  • Hardware interface design and development a plus
  • Working knowledge in Python or mainline scripting language a plus
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills with both individual and group projects, with focus on meeting deadlines
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • Courage to take ownership for finding resolutions for issues and challenges in a collaborative environment

And are interested in these responsibilities...

  • Mentoring Software Controls Engineers to ensure best practice programming principles are applied
  • Programming Allen Bradley and Siemens Safety PLCs
  • Developing and laying out human machine interfaces (HMIs) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems with visualization elements focused on customer ease-of-use and down-time reduction
  • Creating and standardizing programmable logic controller (PLC) programming to optimize man hours spent on projects
  • Setting up variable frequency drives (VFDs), electronic motor starters and other various sensory device common to level and conveyor control
  • Completing Factory Acceptance Testing of all in house motor control panels
  • Creating project layouts, piping, and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and supporting drawings and documentation for complex waste recovery facilities
  • Traveling occasionally to customer locations (less than one week a quarter)
  • Selecting hardware for controls systems ensuring compliance with UL / CE standards
