Job Summary:
The Program Coordinator of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is responsible for, but not limited to: the review, oversight and record-keeping required to comply with state, federal, and certification regulations/guidelines; coordinating recruitment efforts to increase enrollment; and supervision of adjunct instructors for the BLET Programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Administration, organization and supervision of the educational program
• Continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program
• Long-range planning and development of the educational program
• Ability to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program implementation of controls that assure the quality of delegated responsibilities
• Cooperative involvement with office of NC Training & Standards
• benchmark the program and maintain accreditation in accordance North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission
• Program assessment to assure benchmarks are achieved maintain and create necessary records and reports to prepare for N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards site visits
• Plan for, evaluate and provide supervision for the overall operation of the BLET Program
• Assist in the training and oversight of BLET faculty and advisors in course transferability, sequencing, substitutions and major requirements
• Provide advisement, both academic and support services, for students enrolled in the BLET program in conjunction with Criminal Justice Department
• Assist in scheduling of courses to accommodate student needs
• Coordinate meetings of the advisory board
• Facilitate professional development activities for faculty act as a liaison between students, faculty and the department
• Assure availability of classrooms and facilities necessary for instruction
• Process student applications and select students
• Schedule classes and assist in hiring/assigning faculty
• Assure that training equipment and supplies are available and operational
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with local, state, federal law enforcement agencies
• Train, supervise and evaluate effectiveness of adjunct instructors
• In cooperation with the training program, maintain all course records, and coordinate examinations, evaluations and skill proficiency verifications
• Evaluate the effectiveness of faculty who instruct assigned courses
• Attest to the successful completion of all students who meet the programs requirements
• Provide logistical support for off-campus training activities
• Fill in for adjunct instructors and instruct blocks of BLET training as needed
• Coordinate informational sessions to promote BLET programs to local prospective students
• Attend recruiting events as available
• Assist with the development of publications to promote BLET programs
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience Requirements:
• Knowledge about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Solid organizational skills, with attention to detail
• Strong problem solving ability
• Ability to multi-task successfully in a fast-paced environment
• Advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, Blackboard, WebAdvisor, and Colleague/Datatel
• Must hold instructor general certification through the NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission
• Specialized instructor certification in area related to BLET
• Demonstrates competence in areas related to BLET
• Ability to work in a professional and congenial manner with faculty, staff, students, and the general public
• Four years of practical experience as a criminal justice officer or as an administrator or specialist in a field directly related to the criminal justice system. At least one year of the required four years' experience must have been while directly participating in criminal justice training as a Commission-certified instructor
• Hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, Master's Degree preferred

Physical Effort:
Ability to maintain physical fitness program, deliverance, and participation in such program, which includes the Police Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT). Safely operate training vehicles under stressful conditions. Actively monitor firearms safety on the firing range. Talking and hearing is required frequently. Extended periods viewing a computer may be necessary.
Scheduling:
This is a full time position. Normal working hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday; however, there will be times where work is required before or after normal working hours, holidays, weekends, and school calendar breaks.
Travel:
Local travel is required, including between campus locations. Out of state may be required for training and conferences on an as needed basis.
