Job Description:


Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of HVAC Technician /Trades Technician III (00047) in Facilities Management and Operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing maintenance and repair work on a variety of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment essential to the operation of Longwood University. This includes replacement of existing equipment or installation of new equipment as the need may rise. Will be responsible for responding to call back request during non-work hours for support of the University as needed. This position is considered to be emergency personnel, and must report to work or be called in due to inclement weather, in the case of emergency, stage shortage, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform maintenance and repair or replacement of equipment related to HVAC
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and university codes, regulations, standards, and policies all while providing to the comfort and health of students, faculty, and staff
  • Ensure all systems are operated at the proper times to meet comfort as well as energy conservation
  • Perform repairs to refrigeration equipment to include ice machines, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and reach-in boxes, making sure safety standards are met for both electrical and refrigeration work
  • Monitor temperatures to ensure foot storage meets specifications for product
  • Perform trouble-shooting, repair and installation of variable frequency drives
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Valid driver's license
  • EPA certified refrigeration license
  • Knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment, VFD's
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred
  • Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb and work from elevated work stations
  • Ability to work for long periods standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling
  • Extensive experience or technical training on commercial type air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment with associated controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair or replace commercial type air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment
  • Must have working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and/or HVAC control systems
  • Computer knowledge with ability to operate within the university's Computerized Maintenance Management Control system (CMMS)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (if the other statement remains this could be removed)
  • EPA certified refrigeration license preferred (you have it as required, not sure which it should be)
  • Journeyman level certification or documentation of journeyman level experience preferred
  • Master's level HVAC certification desirable
