Job Summary

This is an Emergency Essential position.
This is a skilled position performing maintenance and repair work in the mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general building trades. An employee in this class works in a variety of trades at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of public buildings and equipment, with the primary focus in the area of HVAC/Refrigeration maintenance and repair work and the secondary focus on Plumbing maintenance and repair work. Work in other trades is accomplished as necessary and at the direction of the employee's manager and supervisor. Work involves minor maintenance and repair jobs of a routine nature, which are carried out independently either through work order assignments or dispatched calls, or more advanced work in regular trades maintenance and repair jobs, as assigned. Work in trades outside the two main journeyman level trades of the position will be assigned in accordance with the employee's level of competence and University requirements. Employees in this class exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures, and receive assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams.

HVAC/ Refrigeration: Maintain and repair air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems. Replace air and water filters; makes minor repairs to heating, air conditioning and ventilating equipment. Accomplish repair and replacement of refrigeration and air conditioning components. Install, remove, or replace window air conditioning units.

Plumbing: Maintain and repair plumbing systems in campus facilities and distribution system. Work includes opening blocked drains or clogged toilets; repairing leaky faucets, pipe leaks, water coolers, etc.; helping steamfitters to couple or disconnect pipe; cuts and threads pipe; lubricate water/sewage pumps. Install, maintain, and repair valves, traps, sinks, toilet bowls and other sanitary fixtures. Make temporary repairs on roof leaks.

The days and hours for this position are Monday - Friday 0700-1500.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least HVAC and Plumbing work.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1
or
  • Two (2) years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least HVAC and Plumbing work.
or
  • any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior work experience in the maintenance and repair field in a higher education environment or a facilities setting.
  • Working for HVAC or Plumbing contractor within the past 4 years.
Value Added:
  • Experience working with a work order management system (CMMS)
  • History of continued education or trades/technical course training.
  • Handheld computer skills experience

The starting salary of this position is $39003. 00 per the AFSCME contract .
