Description
A Network and Communications Administrator is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of network and telecommunication systems, troubleshooting network and telecommunication issues, monitoring performance and reliability, ensuring security measures are in place, and assists with policy and procedure development. This role requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented individual with strong technical knowledge and experience in network and telecommunication administration and a commitment to maintaining efficient and secure communication infrastructures.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the installation and configuration of network equipment, such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper cable networks, patch panels, and connectors.
  • Monitors the performance of the organization's systems, including network traffic, system capacity, and utilization levels.
  • Maintains documentation of the network and communications infrastructure, including diagrams, inventory, and network configurations.
  • Performs routine system administration tasks such as installing system updates, replacing hardware, and monitoring system performance.
  • Provides support to end-users, including answering questions about telecommunications services and resolving user issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems with the organization's network and communications systems, such as network outages, equipment malfunctions, and connectivity issues.
  • Assists with upgrading and maintaining the organization's infrastructure, including installing software updates, upgrading hardware components, and implementing new technologies.
  • Ensures the organization's network and communications systems are secure and comply with security policies and regulations.
  • Generates reports on the performance and status of the organization's systems, including network uptime, user satisfaction, and system utilization.
  • Assists with projects, including planning, design, and implementation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT professionals, including network engineers, system administrators, and help desk technicians, to ensure that the organization's infrastructure operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Strengthen digital literacy skills through education and the application of digital technologies to effectively engage in information gathering, utilization, and data management while promoting a security culture.
  • Must complete all required federal, state, institution, and department training.
  • Engages in a planned program of professional development. Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry, including best practices, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Colleges' educational philosophy and mission.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours' time period. Salary range: $55,000-$65,000


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Basic paid or internship-based experience in network and telecommunications support or administration.
  • Solid understanding of network and telecommunication protocols, equipment, and technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with network and telecommunication monitoring and management tools.
  • Experience with network security best practices and technologies.
  • Industry certifications, such as CCNA, Network , or similar, are a plus.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
