About the Department:

Intercollegiate Athletics serves 500 student-athletes in 22 NCAA Division I sports. We are a proud member of the Atlantic 10 Conference with 17 Conference Championships, NCAA Championships in Women's Soccer and Men's Indoor Track, an NCAA Final Four appearance with Men's Basketball, and over 30 individual National Champions. We are student-focused, education-centered, and committed to providing transformational experiences for our student-athletes and staff. Our three priorities are to educate, compete, and engage.

Educate: Prioritize academic achievement and recruit student-athletes who can be successful academically, strengthen ICA's commitment to diversity and inclusion, and provide consistent education for coaches and sport administrators.

Compete: Position teams to consistently compete for conference success and recruit student-athletes who possess the ability to excel athletically from a conference and national perspective.

Engage: Prioritize the experience and personal well-being of student-athletes, develop and renovate athletics facilities, generate resources necessary to support the student-athlete experience, and foster and inspire partnerships within the department, University, and the community.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Head Women's Basketball Coach, the Director of Basketball Operations administers and organizes the day-to-day operations of the women's basketball office, facilitating communication among staff members. Job is performed with adherence to NCAA Division I rules.

Responsibilities:
  • Leads/directs a comprehensive player development program including but not limited to leadership, financial literacy, media training, player mentor program, post-college transition planning, etc.;
  • Develops and leads professional opportunities program for players. Serves as a mentor to both educate and assist with NIL opportunities;
  • Assists in making strategic decisions in scouting and contest situations;
  • Remains aware of and maintains a safe and healthy environment for the student-athlete;
  • Abides by and promotes the aims, goals, and objectives established by the Athletic Director and Head Coach;
  • Knows, understands and assures that the student-athletes abide by all the University, Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10), and NCAA Rules and Regulations;
  • Coordination of countable coaches on & off campus recruitment efforts:
    • Maintains and grows professional network to assist in program recruitment efforts;
    • Responsible for managing an internal recruitment database and calendar to track all incoming and potential recruits;
    • Responsible for coordinating all logistical aspects of official and unofficial visits;
  • Season Scheduling:
    • Contacts other coaches and teams for game scheduling each season;
    • Effectively communicates with Mason coaches and other coaches across the A10 and NCAA;
    • Develops a competitive schedule that fosters a strong experience for student-athletes;
  • Works with the coaching staff to direct the day-to-day operations of the program;
  • Coordinates team and head coach schedules;
  • Assists head coach as a liaison to academic, strength and conditioning, procurement, business office, and compliance;
  • Responsible for directing all operations according to university and department policies and procedures. Makes recommendations on how to continuously improve current policies and procedures;
  • Communicates with Patriot Club to discuss and implement AND 1 CLUB and other donor/alumni plans and participation; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Women's Basketball Head Coach.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree, or any combination of bachelor's degree, training, certification and work experience that equates to the advanced degree;
  • Collegiate basketball playing experience and/or previous work experience in collegiate basketball;
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division 1 rules and regulations;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; and
  • Valid driver's license: must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of collegiate athletic budget process; and
  • Video technology skills necessary for producing scouting and practice tapes.
