Simulation Technician-Health Programs
Serves as the technical expert who is able to set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and in some cases, repair simulation equipment including hospital-type equipment used in simulation activities, and AV/IT equipment used during simulation activities. The Simulation Technician also assists simulation educators, faculty, and learners in the use of technical equipment used in simulation on Campus and during mobile simulation activities for our practice partners. Assists in operational activities such as maintenance scheduling, student scheduling, inventory and purchasing functions. The Simulation Technician is familiar with the various modalities of simulation education and has an understanding of simulation educational principles; thus, is able to assist in the development, setup, delivery and takedown of simulation educational sessions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists faculty/instructors in selecting appropriate modality of simulation to meet learning objectives and which is most appropriate to selected learners (manikin, task trainer, etc.)
- Advises/assists faculty/instructors during the design and running of simulation scenarios.
- Maintains stock levels to meet simulation scenario needs both on campus and for mobile simulation.
- Makes recommendations for the purchase of equipment, supplies and materials required for simulation.
- Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory agency polices.
- Maintains simulation equipment to a high standard and ensures proper scheduling of College simulation lab/mobile simulation.
- Attends vendor training sessions, conferences, etc. to stay updated on simulation best practices.
- Operates and is able to trouble shoot hospital equipment used in the simulation/mobile simulation/in-situ environment (beds, pumps, etc.).
- Controls, programs, maintains patient simulators (voice and physiological parameters) during scenario-based training sessions.
- Helps faculty to maintain equipment inventory and schedule of maintenance and technical activities each semester.
- Maintains equipment, including routine cleaning and care, advanced maintenance (parts and repair), and coordinates with vendors to send equipment for repair/service as needed based on warranty.
- Helps to set up, operate equipment/AV system in simulation lab/mobile simulation including equipment, supplies, moulage, etc. for any simulation activity.
- Takes down simulation lab/mobile simulation/in-situ simulation after scenario completed.
- Assists faculty/instructor with debriefing of learners at the completion of the simulation activity.
- Uses appropriate checklist for environment/simulation setup.
- Oversees installation of AV equipment/software or works closely with the appropriate technologist at the College.
- Is involved with scenario planning and design and can give advice on the integrity of the scenario.
- Is involved in the educational aspects of scenarios including debriefing/feedback to learners.
- Instructs actors or acts as needed during scenarios; acts as voice of manikin during scenarios.
- Collaborates with College Health Program faculty and agency practice partners to develop clinical scenarios to meet the needs of learners.
- Troubleshoots technical issues with manikins and equipment and can mobilize resources to ensure functionality of equipment in order to meet course and/or agency requirements.
- Coordinates with technology resources to ensure the AV/IT system, simulation equipment, and hospital-type equipment for mobile simulation/in-situ simulation is always operational.
- Contributes to the strategic planning of the simulation lab/mobile simulation in relation to the College's mission statement.
- Serves on the Gaston College Simulation Committee.
- Maintains awareness of scheduling in relation to availability of physical and technical resources for learners to have a successful simulation experience.
- Participates in professional and educational activities to maintain professional competencies and current knowledge base.
- Conducts tours as requested for internal and external customers.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma from a regionally accredited institution in a technology or health-related field is required.
- Associate's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution in computer science, technology, or a health-related field is preferred.
- Certification or licensure in a healthcare field or IT/engineering-related field is preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean DMV driving record required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous knowledge/experience working in a simulation lab setting preferred.
- Experience in healthcare/media environment preferred.
- Must be PC and MAC proficient.
- Ability to use audio/visual equipment preferred.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers from different disciplines and different level of training.
- Understanding of Curriculum Development preferred.
This position is Part-Time, Temporary - 28 Hours per week
