The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Mathematics, De Anza College. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
  1. Practice student-centered and equity-minded pedagogies in accordance with established course outlines and use high-impact strategies that serve all students including underserved and disproportionately impacted students (i.e., Latinx, African Ancestry, Filipinx, Veterans, Foster Youth, Disabled Students, First-Generation Students, LGBTQ+, and Low-income students).
  2. Advance student learning through dedicated, exemplary, equity-minded instruction.
  3. Teach community college statistics and mathematics courses to a diverse student population (course range includes algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics).
  4. Collaborate in the development and revision of curriculum.
  5. Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which is inclusive and mindful of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  6. Teach in multiple modalities, including asynchronous/synchronous/hybrid online and in-person courses.
  7. Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics OR, Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR, the equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded teaching and eliminating demographic predictability of educational outcomes.
  2. Commitment to instructional practices that empower students who are typically underrepresented in STEM fields.
  3. Experience working with community college students and/or similar populations.
  4. Ability to prepare for and teach all mathematics and statistics courses offered by the department in a way that conveys enthusiasm for the subject and fosters excitement and curiosity inside and outside the classroom.
  5. Using a variety of instructional methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration among students and engage students in their own learning.
  6. Collaborating effectively with colleagues to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
  7. Continual professional growth relevant to community college teaching.
  8. Ability to present ideas in an organized and clear manner.
  9. Incorporating appropriate technology in the teaching and learning.
  10. Actively participating in departmental, division, and college initiatives.
  11. Ability to foster a positive and inclusive class environment for student discussion and participation.
  12. Demonstrated ability to support students experiencing mathematics anxiety and helping them overcome it.
  13. Demonstrated experience working with staff and in student success center, cohort programs, and learning communities to ensure the success of students.
  14. Ability to assess students through multiple measures in a fair and equitable way to recognize different learning styles.
