Food Service Worker - Head Start


SALARY:   $1,470 per month (10 month cyclic appointment - SUMMERS OFF) 

SCHEDULE: 20 hours per week

LOCATION: Everett, Washington

DESCRIPTION:   

Our kitchen provides meals and snacks to over 500 preschool children at nine centers throughout Snohomish County.  The Food Service Worker delivers meals to their assigned center and returns dirty dishes back to our kitchen.  The Food Service Worker is also responsible for helping with food prep, dishwashing, cleaning, and sanitizing. This is a classified position and reports to the Food Service Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Drive a program vehicle to transport food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchen and assigned preschool center 
  • Load and unload cambros into program vehicles
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds
  • Assist in food and bakery preparation and production
  • Organize and properly store dry goods, frozen and fresh products
  • Set up food for family-style meal service in the classroom, prep food for breakfast and snacks
  • Maintain the health and safety of all children and their environment 
  • Ensure that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Snohomish County Food Worker Card
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Clean Driving Record

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a production kitchen, and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit, bend, stoop, walk and move  over uneven surfaces is required. The position requires some lifting and moving up to 50lbs in an emergency situation. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language.  

WORK SCHEDULE:

20 hours per week, Monday-Friday

COMPENSATION:  

Salary range 34.  Beginning salary is $1,470 per month, with progressive increases to $1,898 per month, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 10 sick days per year, 10 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 3 personal leave days, and 11 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 20 vacation days per year).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • Criminal background check.  Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
