East Stroudsburg University is hiring an Assistant Director of Admissions! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the Assistant Director of Admissions, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable working with a diverse student population. You will be an active member of the Admissions team and will work closely with the Associate Director to implement the University's recruitment and yield initiatives for prospective and admitted undergraduate students. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your college admissions experience and public speaking skills while assisting prospective students and their families in their transition to ESU. This includes representation at high school visits, college fairs, campus visit programs, community outreach, and following up with inquiries and contacts. To be successful in this role, you must be flexible, able to juggle multiple priorities, and have strong interpersonal skills.

Your normal business hours will be Monday to Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Assistant Director. Evenings and weekends are required with considerable travel in the fall and spring recruitment seasons. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
  • Responsible for tracking and understanding student populations in the assigned region, understanding educational systems, and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of university programs, degrees, admissions requirements, and institutional data points.
  • Review, evaluate and execute timely and informed application decisions and oversee related functions, processes, and procedures.
  • Utilize and enhance yield enhancement strategies focused on opportunities to effectively engage with schools and community-based organizations in the areas assigned to positively recruit and connect with prospective students.
  • Manage, oversee, and create programs with and for student workers, such as tour guides.
  • Effectively create content in various forms (web, emails, letters, publications and presentations) and communicate with diverse constituencies including prospective students, parents, alumni, faculty, school counselors, and other staff.
  • Conduct and attend a goal of 120 in-state and out-of-state high school visits, college fairs, and other events related to student enrollment per recruitment season months.
  • Key leadership role in planning, preparation and execution of campus events related to student recruitment to include Counselor of the Day, campus tours, campus bus visits, Campus Days, open house programs, yield events, orientation, counselor visitation days and other related events and activities.
  • Commitment to professional development, training and gathering resources and information for current or future implementation by the Office of Admissions.
  • Assist with proper acquisition of recruiting materials and social media platforms.
  • Maintain current office databases of event procedures, territory management, recruitment tracking, policies, ESU product knowledge and other related topics.
  • Provide outreach to students throughout the entire application and admission process by communicating through various and continued methods while providing a strong knowledge base of East Stroudsburg University's offerings.
  • Participate in all requirements relating to Counselor of the Day activities such as providing campus tours, and presentations, answering email inquiries, greeting, assisting visitors, and other related items.
  • Maintain continued and effective communication with applicants and high school counselors within assigned territory.
  • Assist the Director and Associate Director of Admissions and Orientation with coordination, record keeping and assessment of recruitment travel and other duties within assigned travel territory.
  • Coordinate with the Director and Associate Director of Admissions and Orientation by initiating and maintaining responsibilities that include on and off-campus events and planning, effective utilization of CRM databases to include Recruit and Banner, and other related communications and responsibilities.
  • Perform related work as required.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience in college admissions or related field/experiences.
  • 3+ years' experience with event programming leadership, development and implementation or related planning experience.
  • 2+ years' experience with Banner, Slate or other student information software/CRM tools.
  • 2+ years of experience in decision-making and direct implementation of result-oriented yield enhancement strategies.
  • 2+ years of professional experience with Microsoft office and at least 1 admissions operations software.
  • Must be able to qualify for a credit card.
  • Possess a Valid Driver's License.
  • Able to able to travel and frequently work evenings and weekends. Must be able to travel within Pennsylvania and neighboring states, including overnight hotel stays.
  • Must be able to work outside for campus events in varying climates, walk/stand for extended periods of time, and pick up and carry boxes/admissions supplies.
  • Must have experience with public speaking, which includes strong interpersonal skills, creative thinking, and compassion for students.
  • Ability to quickly pivot between work tasks when unplanned events occur that need immediate attention.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
