JOB DESCRIPTION

Lecturer in Chemistry (non-tenure track) at Davidson College

The Department of Chemistry at Davidson College seeks to hire a Lecturer in a renewable, non-tenure track position beginning July 1, 2024. Duties include teaching lecture and laboratory classes in general chemistry and chemistry for non-STEM majors; these courses are typically capped at 32 students. Occasional teaching at the foundational level may be required; applicants with the ability to teach 200-level courses in analytical or inorganic chemistry are of particular interest. The total teaching load is six courses per year, including labs, and the position features renewable, multiyear contracts. The Lecturer will be an integral part of the department, and over time will take on service commitments across the college that align with their pedagogical and personal interests.

Applicants must have at least a master's degree in chemistry or a related field before the start of the appointment; a PhD and/or college level teaching experience are preferred. As a department and a college, we are committed to supporting diversity and inclusion, and current members of the department actively participate in initiatives that enrich the teaching and mentoring of our diverse student body. We especially welcome candidates who have benefited from, contributed to, or created programs directed toward diversity and inclusion.

Candidates will be evaluated based on the following application materials (pages are suggested length): a cover letter describing your interest and qualifications for the position (1-2 pages), a CV (2-5 pages), a teaching statement describing your teaching philosophy and how you would foster inclusivity and diversity in the classroom (1-2 pages), and (unofficial) copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Please include in your CV names and contact information for three people from whom letters of recommendation may be solicited later. See here for additional information about the area, college, department, search process, and specific guidance for materials requested. Review of applications begins immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. Inquiries may be directed to Jeffrey Myers, Chemistry Department Chair, jemyers@davidson.edu.
