JOB TITLE: Press Operator

A press operator has the skills to work capably on an offset printing press in an effective manner with other employees.

STATUS: Full-time, hourly

REPORTS TO: Production Director

COMPENSATION: $27-$30 per hour, plus benefits 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

  • Prepare the press for printing. May involve many presets that specific jobs require.
  • Able to load paper and mount plates, in accordance with ink settings or paper width.
  • Prepare press in a timely and accurate manner.
  • While the press is running, make decisions on what is acceptable and unacceptable.
  • Keep printing press supplied to keep running with materials such as ink or fountain solution.
  • Take maintenance seriously. During planned or unplanned downtime, keep the machine in good working order through preventative maintenance.
  • Follow standard processes and procedures.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to speak and write clearly and accurately.
  • Willingness to cooperate with others and work to the greater good.
  • Multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Awareness that safety for yourself, your co-workers and equipment is of utmost importance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Contribute to the overall success of the company by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
  • Enforce all policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook and enforce all safety policies and procedures as set forth in company regulations. 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Exemplary attendance; be punctual.
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • Takes full responsibility for the printed product; must have a sufficient understanding of every component of the offset printing press to discern where a problem may be originating.
  • Ability to operate in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to deal with others in a respectful manner. Constantly looks for ways to improve the process. Abide by the quality standards guidelines produced by the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The employee has no supervisory responsibility. 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to reach, sit, use fingers, grasp, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
