Description:
Responsible for assisting candidates for admission to the college, currently enrolled students, and the community at large with making informed career and educational choices and/or fulfilling requirements for admission to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute. Administers and interprets personality, interest, work values, and experience/ability assessments; assists individuals and groups with exploring self and career choices via multiple standardized assessments; conducts classes and workshops related to career awareness and decision making; assists candidates for admission to the college with clarifying and understanding program choices and completing the admissions process; interprets placement tests as well as provide brief personal counseling and crisis intervention, and other duties as assigned.

Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
1. Maintains appointment hours to provide individual career assessment and counseling services; administers and interprets instruments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Harrington-O'Shea Career Decision Making System (CDM), the Discover/ACT computerized career guidance system, and other published and online assessments and exploration resources.
2. Provides for group career guidance experiences for students, on and off-campus, as needed or requested.
3. Provides instruction and assistance with printed and online/distance resources for self-assessment, occupational exploration, and with searching for career training programs.
4. Provides training in the use of the various self-directed career assessments and personality instruments.
5. Assists in the delivery of workshops for dislocated workers
or other community groups in need, as indicated.
6. Conducts WISE-UP sessions (Workshop Information Series on Education, Understanding and Professionalism) and other workshops related to career exploration, career decision making, assessing labor market information; provides information regarding study skills and life skills management, etc.
7. Assists with maintaining the accuracy, completeness and relevance of the Career and Counseling Services web pages that are housed within the CCC&TI website.
8. Demonstrates proficiency in the admissions process and placement test interpretations; acquires and regularly updates knowledge base about all CCC&TI academic program requirements, developmental coursework requirements and course progression; understands college transfer requirements and degree options.
9. Provides information and referral regarding programs and services at area community colleges and universities.
10. Provides one-to-one counseling services in crisis situations and refers students to outside psychological services providers for continuing or intensive services as needed.
11. Participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge and skills when needed; attends professional conferences.
12. Performs other duties (i.e. registration, graduation, job fairs, recruitment activities, college committees and task forces, etc.).
13. Participates in professional development activities and required employee training.
Marginal Functions:
1. Assesses and evaluates services and student outcomes.
2. Performs or assists with other duties as assigned.

Office or classroom environment; working closely with others; exposure to computer screens.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking or sitting for prolonged periods of time; light lifting; general manual dexterity.
Experience and Training:
Experience:
Minimum of two years of work experience in counseling, education, or related field required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge and experience in tests and measurements and in psychosocial interviewing and counseling techniques preferred. Computer/MS Office skills required.
Training:
Master's Degree (or near completion) in counseling, social work or related field required. Eligibility for credentialing as an NCC, NCLPC or LCSW is highly desired.
