Position Overview

The Engagement Specialist role is accountable for providing front-line support to students and program participants, assisting them in overcoming challenges and achieving their academic and professional development goals. This includes delivering timely information through various mediums, tracking student enrollment and academic progress, collaborating with stakeholders, contributing to continuous improvement efforts, and promoting student success and satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Front-line Student Support: Provide personalized support to assigned students, serving as their primary point of contact for academic and non-academic concerns. Offer guidance, resources, and referrals to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving their academic goals.
  • Delivery of Just-in-Time Information: Develop and deliver timely information to students through various mediums such as live webinars, videos, articles, and graphics. Address common issues, provide tips for success, and promote available support services.
  • Tracking and Reporting of Student Success Initiatives: Monitor student progress and engagement, tracking interactions and interventions. Maintain accurate records of student interactions and outcomes, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Campus Collaboration: Collaborate with other campus units to enhance students' sense of belonging while also providing access to shared resources and success tools.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and other campus resources to support student success. Facilitate communication and coordination to ensure a holistic approach to student support and intervention.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance coaching skills and stay abreast of best practices in student success. Contribute to the continuous improvement of student support services and programs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Minimum requirement in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in student advising, academic coaching, or related roles within higher education, preference to candidates with a strong understanding of online learning environments or 2 years as a student employee in advising, admission, or student orientation.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse student populations and collaborate with university stakeholders.
  • Data Analysis Abilities: Proficiency in analyzing student data and utilizing campus tools for data-driven decision-making to support student success initiatives.
  • Advising and Counseling Skills: Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and solution-focused advising to students, addressing academic, personal, and career-related concerns.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently, ensuring timely delivery of advising and support services.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using various technology platforms and tools commonly utilized in online education, including learning management systems and virtual communication software.
  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, with an understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by diverse student populations.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, contribute to program development initiatives, and actively participate in university committees and activities.
  • Professional Development: Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and stay updated on best practices in student success coaching and online education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CRM Proficiency: Experience using CRM systems like Peoplesoft, EAB Navigate, and Slate in higher education settings, facilitating efficient tracking of student progress and support services.
  • Community Engagement: Previous experience in community outreach or educational services, showcasing a commitment to serving diverse populations and establishing partnerships to support student success.
