Assistant Shipping Manager
The Assistant Shipping Manager supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties:
Key Responsibilities and Experience
- Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
- Oversees outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness and condition of shipments
- Determines space requirements and positions of shipment in trailers
- Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and seals loaded truck doors.
- Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel for repair
- Directs movement of shipments form shipping and receiving platforms to storage and work areas
- Issues written and oral instructions
- Makes suggestions to improve efficiencies
- Makes sure all supplies are in the work area
- Enforce company rules and regulations to employees
- Makes staffing suggestions as needed
- Completes staffing evaluations
- Other duties may be assigned.
Experience & Abilities
2 years experience in managing a shipping warehouse
Ability to successfully lead/manage a team
Ability to communicate effectively with management
Excel, AS400 and JDE software knowledge preferred
Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more
This job requires standing, walking and sitting
