Position Function

The Assistant Director of Disability Services is a member of the Disability Services leadership team and helps facilitate the office's efforts to provide access and opportunity for Ball State students with disabilities. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Disability Services and supports the Director in supervising staff and managing the accessibility initiatives of Disability Services.

Minimum Education

Master's degree from an accredited institution by August 1st, 2024.

Minimum Experience

At least one year of experience (professional or para professional) in higher education.

Minimum Other

Ability to work effectively with students from diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master's degree in Education, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related area.

Preferred Experience

Experience in disability services in higher education and involvement with disability/access issues.

Preferred Other

Pre-Employment Screening

Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Support the Director in all aspects of office operations.

Review disability documentation and meet with students to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations in the classroom and for other campus activities.

Implement auxiliary services for students with disabilities such as notetakers, captioning, sign language interpreters, and CART providers.

Oversee and coordinate all payment and budget aspects of the auxiliary services.

In cooperation with the Director, coordinate faculty training on best practices in serving students with disabilities. Serve as a liaison for faculty and staff relative to campus disability-related issues.

Act as the DS liaison to the BSU Captions Coordinator to have access to all information regarding captioning accommodation requests. Share information with others as needed.

In cooperation with the Director, conduct the pre-admission, orientation and first-year acclimation process for students with disabilities, outreach initiatives to the campus community, and coordination of the annual Disability Services awards program.
