The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) provides educational expertise and research opportunities in aeronautics, astronautics, materials science, space systems, engineering mechanics and other related areas of engineering. The Department anticipates filling one position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin for the fall academic year (Oct 2024). Applications are invited from candidates that meet the position's requirements as described in this announcement. Successful candidates are expected to have strong interest in teaching at the graduate level, researching aeronautics or astronautics-related technical and scientific topics, and authorship of publications documenting the candidate's research efforts. Emphasis will be given to candidates with expertise in Controls and/or Spacecraft Design and/or Astronautics.

Duties include instruction of graduate engineering courses, research, academic advising of M.S. and Ph.D. students, student mentorship, and fulfilling department duties and other service to the institution and the aeronautics and astronautics profession. Requirements:

Required Position Qualifications:

- At the time of hiring (Oct 2024), possess a doctoral degree earned from an accredited institute or university in Astronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field of engineering, mathematics, or physics.

- US citizenship.

- Possess or be eligible for a TS//SCI clearance.

- Demonstrated professional knowledge of foundational and advanced topics associated with Aerospace Engineering. These areas include, but not limited to: controls for aircraft and spacecraft and all aspects of the design of satellites or other spacecraft. Faculty in any of these areas will have at least a year of formal education and a year of research in these areas beyond the Masters of Science degree.

- Applicants must exhibit potential for maintaining a strong publication and funding effort commensurate with each academic rank.

- Have experience teaching engineering classes at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

- Have experience in mentoring and advising students in research topics and education plans for an advanced degree.

- Possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters
